Media and Information Literacy

Why is media and information literacy important? Bayan Tal discusses the media and information literacy program at the Jordan Media Institute.

Bayan Tal is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Crown Prince Foundation and senior adviser at the Jordan Media Institute where she also manages the Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Program which seeks to integrate MIL into schools and universities and actively engage all sectors of society in the Kingdom. Tal has more than 39 years of experience in media and communication. She began her career at the age of 17 as a broadcast journalist, anchor and later executive, during 25 years of service at the Jordan Radio and Television Corporation (JRTVC). In 2005 she was charged with establishing the Government Communication Department at the Prime Ministry and was part of a team that drafted The National Agenda – a 10-year comprehensive reform program for Jordan. She moved to the Royal Hashemite Court in 2006 as Director of International Media and Communication for His Majesty King Abdullah II. Tal returned to JRTVC in 2010 as the first female Director General, where her efforts focused on applying professional standards and restoring public confidence in the public service broadcaster.
