The GCC-China Relationship

What are the parameters of the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) – China relationship? And, are there differences among GCC countries in terms of their ties to China?
Is there a risk of friction between US and China in the GCC, as China may be expanding its engagement with the region beyond economic cooperation?

Camille Lons is a research associate at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). She is usually based in the IISS’ Middle East office in Bahrain but is currently conducting a fellowship in Taiwan. She covers political and security developments in the Gulf region, with a specific focus on Gulf countries’ economic and political relations with China.
